Creamy Baked Macaroni and Cheese

Baked Macaroni in Creamy Cheese Sauce

This is a basic recipe for baked macaroni and cheese, and one of our more popular ones as well. The ingredients are one packet of macaroni and:
4 tbsp butter
4 tbsp flour
1 cup milk
1 cup cream
2 cups of quality shredded or sliced cheese
1/2 cup buttered breadcrumbs
1/2 tsp salt and freshly grounded black pepper

To start, preheat your oven to 400°F. The macaroni should be washed and drained. Set the cooked and drained macaroni aside. Melt the butter in a large saucepan. Mix flour with pepper and salt by using a blender for serious creamy-ness. Pour cream and milk gradually and stir continuously. Bring the white sauce to a boiling point and let it boil for two minutes.

Cook at a medium heat level for about ten minutes. Afterwards, add shredded cheese and let simmer for an additional five minutes until the cheese melts. Add macaroni to the white cheese sauce and mix it in so that it is coated completely with cheese sauce. Put the macaroni covered which is now covered in cheese sauce in a baking dish that is buttered and sprinkle breadcrumbs on top. Bake for 20 minutes till the top becomes golden brown. Serve with tomato sauce.

If wanting to prepare for the next day, this can be frozen in a zip lock bag and used later. You can freeze the macaroni covered in white cheese sauce by letting it cooling to room temperature and then storing it in the freezer. You can take it out of the freezer the night before and let it thaw to room temperature before baking it.
