Healthier Macaroni and Cheese: Part 2

The quest for great tasting yet healthy macaroni and cheese is not likely to end any time soon. For a healthier macaroni and cheese meal, there are a few things you can try. In Part 1, we talked about reducing the amount of butter, and exchanging cream for low fat milk. Now let’s talk about the noodles themselves, and what you can add to the mix for an over all healthier mac and cheese experience.

In the last decade or so the idea of adding fiber to ones diet has gotten a lot of attention. Well, here it is again. For a healthier macaroni and cheese dish, try adding whole-grain noodles, or a blend of whole-grain noodles. Whole grain pasta is higher in fiber and this is where you will be getting an added health benefit, while still enjoying America’s favorite dish. Whole grain noodles shouldn’t be too difficult to find, as many of them are available at your local grocery store.
