Swiss Alpine Macaroni and Cheese Recipe

Alpine macaroni and cheese is a traditional Swiss recipe. The ingredients required are one package of macaroni, three boiled potatoes, two large sliced onions, one minced garlic clove, two tbsp butter, one cup of Gruyere cheese, three fourths of a cup of heavy cream and salt and pepper as per taste.

Cook the macaroni until it is barely tender and set aside after draining. Peel the boiled potatoes and slice them into thick slices. The oven is to be preheated to 400 degrees, and a baking dish of 9×9 inches in size will need to be greased lightly. In a frying pan, melt the butter and sauté the onion slices, until they become translucent. Add garlic and stir fry for two minutes. Now, arrange the macaroni, potatoes and onions in layers in the baking dish. Season with pepper, salt and sprinkle the cheese on top. Lastly, the cream has to be spread evenly. Bake in the oven for about 15-20 minutes till the top turns golden brown. Serve with crunchy onion slices and applesauce.
